Ida is a proud Clark County resident who has called Southern Nevada home for more than 70 years. “Joining CCU made it easy for me to save money,” she shared. “Having a portion of my paycheck deposited directly into my savings account taught me the importance of saving, managing my finances, and budgeting my household income.”
When asked how Create Credit Union has helped her reach her financial goals, Ida reflected on an experience that has stayed with her for more than 50 years. “In the early 1970s, a family friend offered to give my family a car if we paid the remaining $2,000 balance. My bank denied my loan application, but the credit union approved me with nothing more than my signature. That experience made a lasting impression on me. The very next day, I closed my account with the other bank, and the rest is history.”
Since then, Create Credit Union has been her trusted financial partner, helping her family with loans, savings accounts, and other financial services. “Whenever I had questions, the staff responded with kindness, patience, and clear explanations that gave me confidence in every financial decision.”
Ida also shared what makes Create Credit Union stand out. “Create Credit Union has always made banking easy and convenient. My favorite location is the North Decatur Branch because the staff consistently provide outstanding customer service. Every visit leaves me feeling valued and informed, giving me more time to enjoy family, friends, travel, and staying active.”
Thank you, Ida, for being such a loyal and valued member of Create Credit Union for more than 50 years!
What a Former Fraud Detective Wants You to Know About Avoiding Scams
Fraud scams are becoming more convincing and sophisticated, and anyone can become a target. Joseph Herbert, a former Metro detective and current Create Credit Union security officer, says scammers often earn your trust, create a sense of fear or urgency, and pressure you into sharing personal information. Then you unknowingly give them access to your accounts, moving your money before you have time to stop and think clearly about the situation.
Herbert shared, “During my time as a Metro Detective, I have interviewed many people who have fallen for scams and the one thing a large majority of victims told me was that "something just didn't feel right about it.” He added, “Even though it didn't feel right, most victims still provided the scammers with everything they asked for and eventually had thousands of dollars stolen from them.”
A good rule of thumb, if something does not feel right, hang up or stop responding, then contact the organization directly using a trusted phone number or by logging in to your account through the official website or app.
Here are some practical tips from Herbert to help you spot scams and stay protected:
Be cautious of unexpected contact: Watch out for calls, texts, or emails you did not request.
Slow down if pressured: Scammers often create urgency, so you do not have time to think. Reach out directly to the organization’s official number to verify if there’s fraud.
Protect your information: Do not share account details, passwords, usernames, or verification codes even with the employees, especially if you did not initiate it.
Avoid suspicious links and attachments: Do not click links or open attachments from unknown or unexpected messages.
Avoid spoofed websites: Scammers create fake websites to steal your information. Instead of clicking links, type the organization's official website address directly into your browser.
Install antivirus software and update your system: Keep your devices protected by using antivirus software and installing security updates. Outdated software can leave you vulnerable to hackers who may steal your passwords, personal information and hard-earned money.
Herbert also warned people to be cautious of unusual payment methods - financial institutions, law enforcement agencies and government offices will not demand payment through gift cards, Bitcoin or cryptocurrency machines, wire transfers, cash deliveries or pickups, or by moving money into another account.
Protecting yourself starts with awareness. You are the first line of defense when it comes to protecting your information and accounts from fraud. Check your accounts regularly, keep your devices and antivirus software up to date and educate yourself on the latest fraud trends.
